Overview

The RB951Ui-2HnD runs on a single-core Atheros AR9344 processor at 600 MHz, with 128 MB of RAM and 128 MB of NAND storage. It ships with RouterOS pre-installed and a Level 4 license, providing solid core routing, firewall, and wireless features suitable for home and small-office use, and it remains compatible with current RouterOS releases (v7.x), with free updates for the life of the product (a minimum of five years).

Ports and Connectivity

The router includes five 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports and a single USB 2.0 Type-A port (1A max) for USB storage or modems. Note that, unlike MikroTik's newer models, the Ethernet ports here are Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) rather than Gigabit, which is worth keeping in mind for networks with faster internet or LAN requirements.

Wireless

Port 5 doubles as a passive PoE output (500 mA max), letting it directly power a small downstream device such as an IP camera or a second access point without a separate injector. Maximum power draw is rated at 24W with attachments, or as low as 7W for the router alone, and like the rest of MikroTik's RouterBOARD lineup, it's entirely fanless.

Software: RouterOS

The RB951Ui-2HnD runs RouterOS with a Level 4 license, which supports core routing and firewall functionality, VLANs, basic VPN protocols, wireless AP/client/bridge modes, hotspot and captive portal features, and queueing/traffic shaping, configurable through WinBox, WebFig, or the command-line interface. Level 4 licensing is somewhat more limited than the Level 5 license found on MikroTik's newer devices (for example, it caps the number of concurrent VPN tunnels and wireless client connections in certain configurations), but it comfortably covers typical home and small-office use.
